74,000 Students Chase Their Future Dreams as Rwanda Launches National Practical Examinations

Kigali, Rwanda – More than 74,000 students across Rwanda have begun a crucial journey toward their future careers as the 2025/2026 National Practical Examinations officially got underway on June 3, 2026.

The examinations were formally launched at GS Kagarama by the State Minister for Education, Claudette Irere, who described the assessments as a significant milestone in building a skilled, competent, and professional workforce capable of meeting the demands of the modern job market.

Addressing the candidates, Irere wished them success and encouraged them to demonstrate integrity, confidence, and discipline throughout the examination period. She urged students to avoid any behavior that could tarnish the reputation of their schools or disrupt the peaceful conclusion of the academic year.

“This is your opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout your education. Have confidence in yourselves, do your best, and uphold the values that define you as responsible students,” she said.

The National Practical Examinations will run from June 3 to June 22, 2026, bringing together 74,085 candidates, including 3,581 private candidates, who will sit for the assessments at 854 examination centers across the country.

The examinations are considered a vital component of Rwanda’s competency-based education system, as they evaluate students’ ability to apply classroom knowledge in real-life situations. They are designed to prepare learners with practical skills and professional expertise needed to thrive in the workplace and contribute to national development.

Education experts emphasize that practical examinations play a critical role in bridging the gap between theory and practice. Beyond academic knowledge, they help students develop problem-solving abilities, innovation, and hands-on experience that are increasingly valued in today’s economy.

As enrollment in skills-based education programs continues to grow, confidence is also rising that Rwanda will produce a new generation of highly skilled professionals capable of driving innovation and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
