President Kagame Commends Rwanda National Police for 25 Years of Dedication and Public Safety

President of the Republic of Rwanda and Commander-in-Chief of the Rwanda Defence Force, Paul Kagame, has praised the Rwanda National Police for its commitment, professionalism, and outstanding service over the past 25 years, noting that their efforts have enabled Rwandans to live and work in peace, dignity, and freedom.

The Head of State made the remarks on Wednesday during a ceremony marking the graduation of 436 police officers who were awarded the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP). The event also coincided with celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Rwanda National Police and its continued partnership in safeguarding national security.

In a speech filled with appreciation and encouragement, President Kagame emphasized that the safety and stability enjoyed by Rwandans today are not solely the result of the Police’s efforts, but also of strong cooperation among security institutions and the active participation of citizens themselves.
“I thank all police officers, both past and present, for the dedication and commitment that have enabled Rwandans to live and carry out their daily activities safely, with the dignity and respect they deserve,” President Kagame said.

He highlighted that the Rwanda National Police has built a strong and admirable legacy over the last quarter century through close collaboration with other security agencies, helping the country maintain peace and stability that are recognized internationally.

“What the Police has achieved has been possible through cooperation with various partners, including other security institutions, but above all through the contribution of Rwandans themselves,” he added.

The ceremony took place at the Rwanda National Police Training School in Gishari, where the graduating officers spent nearly a year receiving intensive training in public safety management, professionalism, policing practices, and community service.

During the event, President Kagame also congratulated officers who excelled academically and demonstrated exemplary discipline, encouraging them to continue upholding values of integrity, patriotism, and service to the people.

The newly commissioned officers now join the growing ranks of the Rwanda National Police, further strengthening the institution’s capacity to maintain national security — a foundation that continues to support Rwanda’s development and the well-being of its citizens.

Over the past 25 years, the Rwanda National Police has played a significant role in crime prevention, community protection, and promoting strong cooperation between citizens and security institutions, earning widespread trust from the public.

Today, Rwanda continues to be recognized for its peace and stability, which have helped create an environment where citizens can work, invest, and live securely —achievements President Kagame said must continue to be protected by all institutions and by Rwandans themselves.
