Dowman of Arsenal Makes Premier League History at 16
Written by Noel Mporebuke
Max Dowman has written his name into football history after becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League. The Arsenal F.C. youngster scored at just 16 years and 73 days during Arsenal’s 2–0 victory over Everton F.C. on 14 March 2026.
Dowman came off the bench at the Emirates Stadium and played a decisive role in the closing moments of the match. After helping create the opening goal for striker Viktor Gyökeres in the 89th minute, the teenager sealed the win deep into stoppage time. With Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford caught upfield for a late corner, Dowman sprinted forward on the counterattack and calmly finished into an empty net.
The goal made the English midfielder the youngest scorer ever in the Premier League, surpassing several long-standing teenage milestones in the competition. The moment also underlined the rapid rise of the Arsenal academy product, who has already broken multiple age-related records in his short career.
Dowman joined Arsenal’s youth academy in 2015 and progressed quickly through the club’s Hale End system. He had already become one of the youngest players to appear in the Premier League and later set another record by becoming the youngest player in the history of the UEFA Champions League when he debuted at 15 years and 308 days.
His historic strike not only secured three crucial points for Arsenal in the title race but also reinforced his reputation as one of England’s most exciting young prospects. At just 16, Dowman’s breakthrough suggests that the Premier League could be witnessing the early chapters of a remarkable career.
