In the Champions League, the club is in seventh place, within the top 8, but far from the leader. And in the Spanish Super Cup, Real suffered the runner-up position after losing 3-2 to their rival.

Right after announcing Xabi Alonso's departure, Real Madrid informed that Álvaro Arbeloa will be the new manager. Álvaro Arbeloa, 42 years old, worked in Real's youth categories and was in charge of Real Madrid Castilla. As a player, he played for Liverpool, West Ham, and Real Madrid itself.
