Rwanda Showcases E-kash Platform at Inclusive Fintech Forum to Advance Digital Financial Inclusion

KIGALI, Rwanda — Rwanda is strengthening its digital financial ecosystem through eKash, a national payment infrastructure designed to simplify digital transactions and expand access to affordable financial services across the country.

The platform, developed by R-Switch, was highlighted during the Inclusive Fintech Forum, where industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators gathered to discuss how financial technology can accelerate inclusive economic growth.

According to Jean Jacques Kajuga, Chief Operating Officer at R-Switch, the e-kash platform is playing a critical role in ensuring that financial services become more accessible, efficient, and affordable for citizens across Rwanda.

“Financial services today are essential services, similar to other public utilities that support daily life,” Kajuga said. “They should be available to everyone and accessible at an affordable cost.”

Building Rwanda’s Digital Payment Infrastructure

R-Switch was established in 2018 as part of the Rwanda National Digital Payment System, a national initiative aimed at modernizing the country’s financial infrastructure and accelerating the shift toward a cashless economy.

The e-kash platform was developed to support three major national goals:

Expanding financial inclusion ,Increasing access to digital financial service Promoting cashless payments across Rwanda

Before the introduction of eKash, many financial institutions in Rwanda had to establish multiple bilateral agreements to connect their payment systems. Each bank or service provider had to negotiate separate technical integrations with others, making the system complex and costly.
