Rwanda and Uganda have come together in Kampala for the 12th Joint Permanent Commission meeting, a high-level gathering aimed at strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
The three-day meeting, running from April 20 to 22, brings together senior officials from both countries to a wide range of strategic sectors. Key areas of focus include military and security collaboration, infrastructure development, immigration and border management, police cooperation, and education.
This session also serves as an important checkpoint, with both sides reviewing the progress made in implementing agreements reached during the 11th commission meeting held in Kigali in 2023. Officials are assessing achievements, identifying remaining challenges, and setting new priorities to ensure continued mutual growth.
The renewed dialogue reflects a shared commitment to regional stability, economic integration, and stronger diplomatic relations. Observers note that the outcomes of this meeting could play a significant role in shaping future cooperation not only between Rwanda and Uganda, but also within the broader East African region.
As discussions continue, expectations remain high that the commission will yield concrete resolutions to further solidify the partnership between the two countries.
