Francophonie Celebrates Global French Teachers on the 7th World French Teachers’ Day

Written by Noel Mporebuke

As the world marks the 7th edition of World French Teachers’ Day, the Francophonie pays tribute to the men and women across five continents who bring the French language to life in their classrooms. Through voice, movement, performance, play, and music, French teachers transform their classrooms into spaces of sharing, creativity, and human connection.

Just as in music, teaching is a matter of harmony, attentive listening, and transmission. French teachers conduct a global symphony that connects peoples, inspires curiosity, and nurtures linguistic and cultural diversity. Teaching French means transmitting far more than a language—it is offering a way of seeing and engaging with the world through diversity and solidarity.

Teachers at the Heart of the Francophonie Project

Together with French Teachers’ Associations worldwide, the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) plays a central role in supporting, equipping, and valuing the teaching profession. In 2025, more than 30 associations of French teachers across all continents received OIF support through Project 2: “French Language as a Language of Teaching and Learning.”

Thanks to this initiative, over 3,000 teachers benefitted from training, and 61,000 students participated in extracurricular activities that bring Francophonie to life whether in schools, theatres, sports fields, or through artistic creation.

Across the world, associations are mobilizing. In Vietnam, with support from CREFAP, dictation, eloquence, and singing competitions attract thousands of learners. In Africa, CREFA supports teacher training in FLE methodology and the use of artificial intelligence. In Central and Eastern Europe, the CREFECO-led Francophone Theatre Festival for Teachers celebrates pedagogical creativity. Meanwhile, in Lebanon, Chile, Ghana, Ireland, and Uruguay, innovative projects are strengthening the presence of French in education systems and enriching the cultural life of young people.

These initiatives reflect the implementation of the Declaration on the French Language in the Linguistic Diversity of the Francophonie, through which member states commit to enhancing teacher training both initial and continuous and elevating the status of the teaching profession.

The Voices and Faces Behind Francophonie

Behind every initiative lies a story individual journeys that embody commitment, passion, and inspiration.

There is the story of Yahye Yassin Omar from Djibouti, who discovered the Francophonie through an educational game and, a year later, represented his country at the FIPF World Congress in Besançon.

There is Do Thu Giang from Vietnam, who returned from the same Congress full of new ideas for teaching business French.

And there is Andromaqi Haloçi from Albania, for whom the Francophone encounter became a “scientific, pedagogical, and cultural reality” more vibrant than ever.

These voices form a universal choir a community of French-speaking educators who build bridges between peoples and uphold a shared ideal: an education that is open, multilingual, and humanistic.

A Francophonie That Teaches and Sings

This year, music becomes the central theme of the celebration. Workshops, competitions, festivals, and webinars will animate the global festivities of November 20, 2025.

In Rwanda, OIF volunteer teachers will lead workshops on using song in French classes. In the Seychelles, Francophone clubs supported by volunteers and regional Francophonie centers (CREFAP, CREFECO, CREFA) will fill the celebration with the voices and energy of teachers.

To each and every teacher, we say thank you. Thank you for teaching, singing, performing, and creating every day the Francophonie of tomorrow.

On this International Day of the French Teacher, the OIF sends a message of admiration and gratitude to every teacher, wherever they may be.

You are the artisans of the Francophonie, the custodians of a living language that grows, reinvents itself, and brings people together.

To teach, to sing, and to create is to let the world hear the voice of a confident, open, and united Francophonie.
