President Paul Kagame on Wednesday, November 29, 2025, received a high-level World Bank delegation at Village Urugwiro, led by Ndiamé Diop, the Bank’s Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa. The meeting focused on the longstanding partnership between Rwanda and the World Bank, as well as priority sectors where the institution continues to support Rwanda’s development agenda.
President Kagame was accompanied by his Special Advisor, Francis Gatare, and the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Yusuf Murangwa.
Established in 1944, the World Bank remains one of Rwanda’s most significant development partners. Its support spans several key areas, including environmental protection, infrastructure development, and private-sector growth.
In December 2024, Rwanda and the World Bank signed an agreement worth 355 billion Rwandan francs aimed at strengthening the capacity of private enterprises and promoting sustainable economic activities.
Between March 14 and September 9, 2025, Rwanda and the World Bank also designed six major projects targeting environmental conservation, urban mobility, refugee support, and disaster resilience. These projects are expected to cost approximately USD 531.81 million, equivalent to about 763.3 billion Rwandan francs. Their implementation is currently awaiting approval from the World Bank Board of Directors.
The latest visit by the World Bank delegation further reinforces the strong and growing collaboration between the two sides, reaffirming the institution’s continued commitment to Rwanda’s development goals.
